The Costasur Full Brake is the largest standard model offered within the "The Cincinnati Brake" family of roller coaster brakes, a fail-safe mechanical pinch brake system suitable for both wood and steel roller coasters.

Key Features and Dimensions

• Size: The standard Costasur Full Brake (CFB-93-STD) measures 93 inches (2.4m) in length. This configuration features a double flare design, providing lead-ins at both ends of the brake for smooth vehicle engagement.

• Configurations: Available models include the standard version (CFB-93-STD), the High Brass version (CFB-93-HB), and the model utilizing a woven brake material (CFB-93-HH).

• High Brass Feature: The High Brass option creates a brake assembly that is 1 inch higher than the standard brake, providing extra wear material.

Braking Mechanism and Materials

The Cincinnati Brake functions by clamping onto a brake fin attached to the roller coaster vehicle, with clamping force generated by air cylinders acting on a cam.

• Brake Shoes: Friction material for use with steel brake fins utilizes wear pads made of Aluminum Bronze. For use with softer brake fins, such as those used in conjunction with magnetic brakes, the brake is offered with a woven composite lining.

• Fail-Safe Operation: This system is defined as a fail-safe mechanical pinch brake that still holds without air pressure. Springs provide the holding force, and during an emergency or loss of air, the spring force actuates the service brake to ensure positive parking.

Maintenance and Lubrication

For maintenance of the friction brakes, multi purpose high temperature grease such as our PRO-ONE MULTI-PURPOSE EP-2 GREASE is recommended to be used with the brake. The general recommendation for the friction brakes is EP2 lithium grease.

Component Consistency

The 93" Full Brake assembly shares all bushings, washers, and cams with the smaller 68" and 48" brakes, though the brake rails, shoes, and channels are unique to the 93" size.
